Unanimous Vote!

At the City of Fremantle’s Committee Meeting lastnight Wade and myself presented our thanks again to the Council for putting the Item ‘Plastic Bag Free City’ on the meeting agenda.  In his motion to Committee, Fremantle Sustainability Officer Alex Hyndman raised 4 Recommendations. They are summarised as follows;

1. Fremantle Council commit to becoming a Plastic Bag Free City

2. Fremantle City stop providing single use plastic bags as soon as possible, including dog refuse bags.

3. Fremantle Council committ to setting up a Plastic Bag Free Freo Stakeholder Liaison Group to be set up with the aim of regulating plastic bag use in Fremantle. Terms of reference and draft membership of this group is to be presented to the March round of meetings. A local law outlawing plastic bags will be a key focus of the Community Liaison Group.

4. A Commmunity and Local Business Education Campaign be supported with $2000 towards this initiative allocated from the existing Sustainability Budget.

So….. as you can see we’re moving right along! Feel free to post your comments, suggestions, and or burning questions all over this site and we’ll be sure to get back to you about it. Thanks again to the amazing Fremantle Community for your loyal support for the campaign! And thanks as well to Fremantle Council for reacting positively to Fremantle’s desire to become a more conscious and sustainable society, and a leader for other communities in Western Australia.

And thanks from the Pelicans too….
